The Astronomical Observatory is a facility located at the airfield in the Maloccu area.
The Castiadas area is one of the few in Italy where we can still find the dark, clear skies essential for high-level astronomical imaging (see the attached light pollution map).
Over the past year, we have collected various photographs of planets, deep-sky objects, and even the sun’s surface using a large-scale telescope and a star-tracking mount with advanced software. This setup even allowed us to capture difficult shots of the International Space Station as it occasionally passes over southern Sardinia at an altitude of 400 km and an impressive speed of 27,000 km/h!!!
These ISS photos in particular have enjoyed some success in the astronomical community; since they are very complicated to take, they are quite rare and sought after…
In the near future, we plan to organize stargazing evenings for school groups and enthusiasts.
